It was not work as usual at the Calabar Municipality Local Government Area Council Grounds, as ‘All Political Support Groups’ in the state gathered to welcome Governor Ben Ayade back from his annual vacation.
It could be recalled that Cross River State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade had written the State House of Assembly notifying them of his intent to proceed on his annual vacation.
The vacation, which began on Monday, July 2, 2018 was stated to last for two weeks, Mr. Ayade’s deputy, Professor Ivara Esu took over as acting governor until the return of the Executive Governor.

Political, Women, Student and Youth Groups thronged the Marian Road council ground in their numbers, the arena was filled with colours and flags. In their euphoria, the leaders of the groups took their turns to deliver Goodwill Messages to receive the Governor, leading the pack was Hon. Lebo Lebo.
Worthy of note is the remark by Prof Esu, who in his speech appreciated the people for the support given him during the period he acted as a Governor, while standing in for his boss.

The performance by Effiom Trombone of the Ayade Band ushered in His Excellency to the stage . 'I Iove this crowd and you can see I am dressed for the reception' Prof. Ayade stated as he mounted the podium accompanied by his wife Dr Linda Ayade.
Professor Ayade was quick to note that the state capital had improved in its level of cleanliness, which Calabar is known for. He commended his deputy, Prof. Ivara Esu for holding brief for him, while appreciating the people for the love and support given him.
The Governor resumes duty tomorrow and has promised the people prompt payment of July salary. In his words, 'I am sure you are aware that there has not been allocation to states for 3 months now, but in our usual manner, even with lean resources, I will ensure that salaries are paid by 25th of July'.
