“One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors”.
-Plato
As the 2019 General Elections draw near in Nigeria, political parties are spending sleepless nights on the drawing board to ensure successful strategies and to present sellable candidates, as they pitch against opposition and competition. It is a period where intra-party politics is played at its peak.
The people in the grassroot have a say, and this is their time to prove so, it is a time when loyalty to party will pay off, even though federal might will have an indelible impact in the polity. Party stakeholders ensure to be careful with their choice of candidature, hoping to present a candidate who will give the opposition a run for their money.
Essessien Bassey Edem is one of such personality to be given the mandate as a candidate running for a seat in the Federal House of Representatives. A personality the All Progressive Congress in Cross River State should be proud to have in their fold, especially at a time like this when they are expected to choose who represents the political party to fill offices in the general election. Essessien is that man whose voice will give the people of Calabar Municipality/Odukpani a face and place in the green chambers as the flagbearer for the APC.
Married to Edemanwan Edem with three Children; Victor, Henry & Zoe Essessien Edem. Essessien had the best of education attending some of the best schools in town; after his First School Leaving Certificate at Aunty Margaret International School in 1983, he proceeded to the prestigious Hope Waddell Training Institution, Leopard Town, Calabar between 1984 to 1990. Mr Edem is currently the Lead Consultant at 22zero6 Consulting Limited. He believes that leadership is not about the next election, instead,it is about the next generation, as such, in his vibrancy, he brings to the table his experience by offering himself to serve the people and give them a voice. A voice that will speak not just enact People-Oriented laws, but also to give Calabar Municipality/Odukpani a face, hereby attracting dividends of democracy that they can feel in the grassroot.
Like the saying goes, 'many are called but few are chosen’, Essessien is the chosen one among the many in the broom-bunch of the APC, call him the anointed one, very accessible and loved by the people, father to the helpless and less privilege, a young man who has washed his hands clean enough to dine with elders, a son in whom the mothers are well pleased, call him the husband of the widow, a vibrant youth who is not lazy, but travails the corporate world and also speaks the language of the street, simply put 'he understands the yearnings of his people’.
That the generation of Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency unborn may have a secure future, now is the time to make your voice heard, by electing Essessien Bassey Edem to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives come 2019.
